Yes, you can relax for a photoshoot. No, seriously hear me out. It might not be right away, but it can be done, I have witnessed it a time or two. Many clients have expressed how surprised they were at how comfortable I made them feel. Most people are uncomfortable in front of the camera simply because they have trained themselves. It’s their perceived reality that they are awkward, not photogenic, worried about the end result or not knowing what to do in front of the camera. A lot of it is going in with too much unknown and little preparation. I know all the things running through your head keeping you up at night about having your picture taken. Trust me, I hear you & those feelings are valid so here are some actionable tools to help relax before a photoshoot.

Relax for a Photoshoot by prepping

Being prepared is going to give you confidence & less to worry about. Knowing what the expect, having your outfits & props laid out or already packed up the night before & understanding what you are responsible for & what the photographer is so you don’t stress unnecessarily. Get ahead of what triggers your anxiety like feeling rushed, parking, being hungry etc to set yourself up for success.  Part of a Blue Flame experience is a Session Design Call where we go over EVERYTHING to prep together.

No caffeine

Seriously, no caffeine because it’s not doing you any favors in the jitters department. Swap for tea or decaf to help relax for a photoshoot.

Breathe to relax for a photoshoot

Stabilizing your your mind through nasal breathing is clutch, letting your brain know you are okay & calming your nervous system.  Reminding you to breathe is a big part of how I guide you through posing.

Trust

You hired your photographer for a reason so trust them & trust their process. A lot of what you are worried about is probably going to be the responsibility of the photographer so let go & keep it simple.

Communication

Talk it out with yourself &/or photographer to get the anxious energy out in the open to feel the emotion. Give yourself grace that being nervous is normal & OK! Tell your photographer what you need from them to help you relax for a photoshoot.
