There is no doubt we live in a digital age, but the digital age is always evolving. I remember floppy disks (some of you probably have no idea what they are), then CDs and USB drives. I don’t know about you, but I no longer have any way to use a CD and USBs are phasing out. Not being able to access your photos, losing them forever isn’t even top of the list as to why prints will remain superior to digitals.
Digital vs. Print Photos
Current and younger generations have been conditioned to want their professional images digitally. Admittedly, I get it. Every picture we take now lives digitally so we can post it on social media, share it etc. When was the last time you printed that amazing photo you took while on vacation? Hung up a photo from a concert? Flipped through an album of your most precious memories? Capturing images now is more like a habit, we don’t have any intention of printing that moment in time that was special enough to grab a snap. So those memories live on in our phones, our emails or suspended in the cloud where we rarely access them. Not to get too depressing, but you get my point, they become forgotten. Printed photos are easy to access, safe from evolving technology and fill your home with serotonin windows.
Printed Photos: The Advantages
When I lost my grandma and I was asked what I wanted from the house I said photographs. Boxes and boxes of photos from when my grandparents were dating, when my Mom was little, when I was little. That’s what I went through and took home. My Dad still gives me images from his parents. Now my boxes and boxes of images that have been passed through generations are my most prized possessions. They are without a doubt priceless. Whomever took them at the time probably didn’t even realize it, but that’s the power of a printed photo. Our memories deserve to be printed. Those memories and experiences you invest in when you hire a professional photographer deserve to be professionally printed. It’s like investing in professional hair color just to wash it will store bought shampoo that fades it faster. Printing at Walmart or online mass consumer based photo labs are not the same as ordering directly from your photographer. You see, when I order through my chosen professional prints labs my printing process has been calibrated so the colors are accurate. This eliminates any unwanted tones, color casts or poor saturation on your prints so they look as much like what you see on a screen as possible. You invested your money in professional photography because it’s custom art. Art you will probably have for generations, art that doesn’t belong on a device. Advantages of professional labs is they use high-quality archival inks on fine art paper for archival quality prints; especially permanent, durable acid-free paper to last hundreds of years. And as a boudoir photographer, the privacy and security of your images is a high priority. Professional labs have higher standards and regulations with your files.
Why Choose Printed Photos Over Digital
In 2022, the average phone camera roll has over 2100 photos. On average, US people take 20 photos a day. Over 92% of these photos are on a smartphone. Over a billion images are shared a day on Instagram.(stats from Photutorial.com) How many photos have you printed in the last 12 months? How many of those 2100 photos on your camera roll can you recall without seeing them? Crazy stats right? I haven’t even covered my main point as to why printed photos are superior; holding a tangible print from your professional photo session is nothing like seeing it on a screen. Hanging a large wall art of an image that gets ya right in the feels is like nothing else. Flipping through a heavy leather bound album filled with your stunning images makes it an elevated experience. A professional photography experience deserves that. You deserve that.
