It’s time we become more comfortable with female sexuality, damnit! The FemCo Denver event was all about encouraging women to open up about our sexual power.
The Feminine Collective is bringing themes to the table that need some community and last month’s Denver event was all about sex, the power we as women possess and taking the steps toward shedding the shame around our sexuality. When Emily, the co-founder of The Feminine Collective, approached me to be apart of their event it was the most amazing and organic connection, I was more than honored to be considered.
This Denver event and it’s message hold a sweet spot in my heart, so I was extra excited to be apart of it in anyway possible. I committed to Emily without even having a solid game plan as to what I would be offering. Not in comfort zone at all; I like to have things mapped out before committing. But sometimes ya just gotta jump and build the wings on the way down. I chatted with my friends and after a few days I had THE idea for my photo experience.
I wanted to create a taste of what a boudoir experience can do for a woman. Which was a tall order given that it was going to be at an event, in front of many other women, it would be loud and my time with each woman would be short. Like 5 min short! I wanted to focus on their sexual energy and power; I wanted to show them all that in a hectic environment! I honestly thought there wasn’t going to be many, if any, women that would want to sign up, but I was happily wrong.
I was overwhelmed in the best possible way by the amount of women who wanted to step out of their comfort zone, strip down and get in front of my camera. So many of them, in the same breath as they introduced themselves, told me how nervous they were or that they had never done something like this and that they would need help. With a huge smile, I reassured them that this was my specialty and that a little bit of trust goes a long way. I guided them through a couple poses, snapped some images and could instantly see that the rest of the room was melting away for them. I can almost actually see when my clients realize there is nothing to fear anymore, and even in this busy environment, in our little corner of the event I could see these women begin to shed their doubts and embrace themselves. All in just a few minutes, so imagine what I can do in my studio. *wink*wink* I was able to let them view their images right away and even pick a few of their favorites which I texted to them on the spot. To see them go from deer-in-the-headlights to “look how good I look” is the exact reason I do what I do and value it so much.
Huge thanks to Emily and Nicole of The Feminine Collective for creating a safe space for women to start this discussion about our sexuality, to Chelsea for assisting me, my makeup artist Bre and Larissa for helping with hair.
I will never forget this Denver event and the women it introduced me to. I do wish I could have experienced the entire event because there was SO much going on and the energy was sky high! It’s so important to break your comfort zone, push the boundaries of what society expects of us and to remember that you get this one life – make it count. Be loud, be proud and take no shit.
