Working with Amy, a Denver Pilates instructor, a few times last year was such a breath of fresh air. She is incredibly passionate, detail orientated and dedicated to her craft. Honored to have worked with her to bring her personality to her brand.
“My name is Amy Young and I’m a master Denver Pilates instructor and life-long dancer. Since 2002 I’ve been studying and teaching classical styles of the Pilates method from coast to coast. Beginning with my initial training in New York City with one of Joseph Pilates own protégés, followed by teaching in Chicago, Detroit and Los Angeles before settling on the front range 6 years ago.”
“For the last 2 years I’ve been expanding my business to the digital space! This month, I am proud to launch my 3rd digital course: A 2-Week Pilates Intensive: Injury Prevention & Recovery starting October 17th through October 28th.” Link to course >>>{https://amydoespilates.com/october-intensive-2022/}
“Beginning in summer of 2022 I’ve opened my books for in-person private, duet and trio training sessions in Denver at Align.Move.Breathe. This gorgeous and fully equipped boutique Pilates studio is in the Golden Triangle neighborhood downtown.”
How/why did you become a Denver Pilates Instructor?
“I came to Pilates, as many do, with an injury. As a young dancer I was suffering chronic lower back pain and came to Pilates in search of a holistic solution to my problem. At first, I found it incredibly challenging to perform the Pilates exercises with such focused control, since I was drawn to dance more for the running, jumping and power elements. However, I stuck with the lessons because the alternative would be to quit dancing (no-go for a 21 yr-old) or get a spinal fusion surgery (also a HELL NO) to stabilize my lumbar vertebrae. “
“So I dove in, to practice and also into a teacher training program. With dedicated daily practice of the Pilates method, my body and mind became completely and utterly transformed in a matter of under two years. What was a painful and unnerving spinal condition called spondylolisthesis became all but unnoticeable with consistent Pilates practice.”
“The genius, effectiveness and artistic leanings of this method are what clinched my fate. Now still teaching Pilates over 20 years later I feel in some ways like I’m just getting started. The complexity and richness of the method continue to open new doors for me, both physically and mentally.”
Who can really benefit from working with you?
“One of the most incredible things about the Pilates method is that it really is for ANY BODY, in most any condition at any stage of their life. But the clients who really get the most out of working with me are usually those who are engaged at a high level in their physical pursuits. I’ve trained dancers, weight lifters, professional basketball and baseball players, as well as moms, software developers and accomplished artists who truly love to feel their very best. Pilates is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one, therein lies its power to transform you from the inside out.”
Most rewarding part of being a Denver Pilates Instructor?
“Well, my clients, of course! It is super exciting to teach movement to attentive students and to become one of the parts of their day they look forward to the most! To watch people apply themselves, practice diligently, embody the Pilates method and in effect, change their lives. It’s truly an honor.”
“My approach to teaching the Pilates method is fresh, modern and fun! My greatest skill is to meet you exactly where you are at and get you to the next levels and beyond. I have an expertly trained eye, a huge repertoire of exercises and variations and the ability to create as the body in front of me informs the direction we are to take. Every private session with me is totally unique and built for you. As for my group classes, you will always be challenged with new exercise and variations.”
