Colorado Videographer Elizabeth just launched her new brand Embr Films, perfect timing for my quarterly local business highlight!
“Hey there! I’m Elizabeth, I am a videographer based in Denver, Colorado. I specialize in elopements for radical and bold couples that want to skip tradition, do something different to craft the best day of their lives, and to document it for future generations. I also love working with business and brands with a story to tell. Through an intentional approach, we look at marketing differently – we aren’t just selling your stuff, we’re inviting customers into something bigger.”
How/why did you become a Colorado Videographer?
“I have always been a creative. I started taking piano lessons when I was 3, picked up violin when I was 8 (all because of the Lord of the Rings), and I would also go above and beyond with every classroom craft project. I picked up my first real camera when I was in middle school and was hooked. I got a DSLR for my sweet 16 while all my friends got their cars, and by 17, I was shooting my first weddings, working in live production, and I knew that this was the direction I wanted to go. I started out as a photographer, but when I spent 6 months traveling, I realized that video is a much more powerful storytelling tool, and photography just didn’t cut it anymore. I made the switch over to primarily being a filmmaker, and I have never been more satisfied.”
Who can really benefit from working with you?
“Everybody needs video. For my couples in the romantic side of what I do, there is nothing like having that out of body experience watching your relationship from the outside. Seeing how your partner looks at you when you’re not looking, the affection you hold for each other, it’s contagious, and you’ll fall in love all over again. Video is also how future generations will look back and see how cool their parents (or aunts and uncles) were back in the day. It’s your own piece of history.”
“For my businesses, as our social media platforms evolve and push video more and more, if brands don’t keep up, it will be difficult to stay relevant. I think I saw somewhere that 80% of content viewed online is video content. Aside from that, people have always been connected to film, movement, music, and seeing themselves as the heroine in the story, so we have a unique opportunity to create these film series telling THEIR story, and making people want to be a part of what you offer. More than ever, people want to feel connected to the businesses they purchase from, and video is one of the best tools to accomplish that.
And as an overall, being on film and doing this deep dive into what you do and who you are, it’s a very vulnerable experience. It can be emotional, even for my businesses. So I pride myself in making this a very welcoming space, from planning to filming, even couples who weren’t so sure about it had a blast at the end of the day and felt amazing about themselves and felt even better after receiving their final film.”
Most rewarding part of being a Colorado Videographer?
“For as long as I could remember, I always wanted to have an impact on the world. And while maybe those were some far fetched dreams of an 8-year-old, I have had an impact on my world. I love to see how my films make people feel. I’ve had couples that told me they never cried on their wedding day, but as soon as they got their film, they were a mess – and here’s the thing, I never created something that didn’t already exist, I just made a space for those feelings to be recognized. I’ve made really emotional films for brands, and they’ve had clients book them in tears.
I may not be changing the world, but I feel good about the art I’m putting out into it, and that counts for something.”
“I do want to talk a little bit about my rebrand too.
For the majority of my career, I’ve just gone by my name for my business. But over the last few years as my work has developed into something more than just myself, I felt the need to change. Embr came out of this idea that for all of human history, since the discovery of the fire, we have used this space for connection and storytelling, and it has always been my favorite part of a camping trip. Embr is the embodiment of that connection – this is a place to tell your stories, and let your stories be heard. It’s a place to be vulnerable. It’s a space to find new friendships and connections, and to revel in something bigger than yourself, and stand in awe of the constellations above us. Embr is no longer about me, but it’s about all of us, and I’m so excited to be in this new chapter of my business.”
