Do you truly understand the importance of your Colorado headshot?
In a time where first impressions are formed mostly online, your Colorado headshot is so much more than just that split second impression. 1/10th of a second to be exact. A professional headshot is just as important, if not more than your logo. People want to humanize your business, to build a personal connection & trust. I mean, haven’t you ever picked your OBGYN or dentist just by just looking at their picture? I certainly have, because seeing their face makes me more comfortable with them.
So why hire a professional when you can just grab a selfie with your iPhone or have a friend who has a nice camera do it? Well, to be blunt a selfie on a business page just screams amateur. Not saying that is the case, you could be the best in your profession, but we are talking about how a potential client perceives you. And it’s all going to come down to the image on your website, social media + Linkedin profile, business card etc. A better, dare I say professional visual will better present who you are & your message. Would you have your friend balayage your hair just because they have access to salon quality product? Nope, or at least I would hope not. Hairstylist have a saying “quite bitching, ya did it in the kitchen.” A quality camera means nothing in the hands of someone who doesn’t’ understand proper exposure, composition, white balance, posing, etc! Someone once innocently told me “wow, your camera takes amazing pictures!” While I know they didn’t mean to mentally slap me across the face, it’s how it felt.
Quality is everything. Don’t just hire any professional photographer for your headshots, find one that is inline with you & your brand. One whose portfolio/social media shows they can work with a diverse range of people & still pose them ALL well. Being photogenic is not your responsibly and should solely fall on the photographer’s shoulders. Doing your research should mean that you trust your photographer to capture your brand, personality & make it all come together. It’s important to show your future clients that you take yourself & your business seriously. After all you want them to take you seriously correct?
Along with showing you are committed to quality & professionalism, you want your professional headshot to stand out from the masses. Future clients are inundated with information all the time, whether they are searching for you via Google, Linkedin or social media. “The simple addition of a professional photo to your profile makes you 14-times more likely to be found on LinkedIn.” (via Craig Smith) So they found you, but now you need them to remember you! People will remember information longer if it’s along side an image. And going out on a limb here, but I bet that people won’t remember your headshot if it’s lackluster. #sorrynotsorry Give them something to remember!
