Bridal boudoir is your boudoir experience with a hint of bridal, whatever that looks like to you. Being engaged is such a fun and exciting chapter that can often get overshadowed by the anticipation of the wedding day. A bridal boudoir experience is an opportunity to take the time to celebrate and memorialize being a fiancée. Doing something different, intimate and a little spicy/flirty to boost your confidence before your big day with the added bonus of a wedding gift that will blow your partner away!

What is Bridal Boudoir?

Many of my bridal clients or brides that inquire are actually not familiar with boudoir until they are planning a wedding and they are bombarded that bridal boudoir is a must for their wedding gift. So first, let’s understand just what boudoir is. This is such a deeply personal answer depending on who you ask, so I am going to keep it simple. According to Wikipedia, boudoir photography is “a photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.” That’s your standard definition, and while true, it’s not the whole truth. Boudoir photography isn’t really just about the images, it’s about the experience. Read more about my boudoir process here

A Denver boudoir photography experience is tailored to you and designed to showcase your style and uniqueness. Bridal boudoir is no different from that, just with a hint of a bridal theme. Bridal will look and feel different for everyone and we would discuss that in detail for your Session Design Call before your session.

Bridal Boudoir Ideas

Whether you want to subtly hint at bridal boudoir or you want to go all out I have some ideas to inspire you. One thing that I like to mention is the reminder and importance that this is about you first. You are the main character in your bridal boudoir photos. You are enough and you don’t need props or extra things to make this bridal.

Just the Veil

If you are a fan of details and found a veil that you are just as excited about as your dress, give it time to shine! Wearing just the veil is simply, elegant, unique with the amount of spice you are comfortable with.

Flowers

Wedding flowers can be a big part of your day, I love adding them to your bridal boudoir to tie them into your wedding images. Flowers are also a great way to add texture and dimension to your images.

Wedding accessories

There is no doubt that the accessories you have picked out for your wedding are special and important pieces for you.  Bring them along for your wedding boudoir session. Your shoes, garter, robe, jewelry and even perfume are perfect.

Something special between the two of you

Share something special with your partner like love of beer or movies? Met at a concert of your favorite band? Did they propose out of state?

When to Schedule Your Bridal Boudoir

Probably sooner than you think and this will vary photographer to photographer so I can only speak to Blue Flame. I have shot enough last minute brides that I was able to sneeze just in time for their wedding and they all say the same thing; “I wish I would have booked this sooner.” The last couple months before your wedding are usually when everything is coming together. All the moving pieces being finalized, appointments, your attention is being pulled in every direction and stress is at the highest. I don’t want your bridal boudoir to be a thing you are looking at crossing off. Set yourself up for success, as this might be a once in lifetime experience, and book a date before you would be too overwhelmed. I recommend at least two months before you would need images/product in hand. That way you, or I, don’t feel rushed. There is a cushion on timeline and can fully enjoy + be present to get the most from your session.

Why Take Wedding Boudoir Photos

Bridal boudoir makes a great gift for your partner no doubt and it’s the most obvious or well known reason around this experience. However, it’s the least important reason. I believe the most important reason to take wedding boudoir photos is the boost in confidence. Too often I hear potential clients saying they “wish they had the confidence” to do a shoot. The confidence is found through this experience.

“Mackenzie was incredible and so kind, and she showed me a few pics on her camera while we were still shooting, which really boosted my confidence in the moment. I have never felt more beautiful and powerful than seeing my final images.”

It’s the expanding of your comfort zone for me! I can’t think of one bad thing that would come from boosting your confidence before your wedding day.  That is a priceless gift to yourself and in turn your partner + your relationship.

It’s also more time in front of the camera before an entire day being photographed. If you are someone who isn’t 100% comfortable in front of the camera, a bridal boudoir session is more practice, at your most vulnerable, to get more familiar. You will be guided through all your posing so you can relax and feel more confident having your photo taken.

Wedding Boudoir Photos with Blue Flame Studio Co

A boudoir experience is personal, intimate and vulnerable. Bridal boudoir is no different and finding the right photographer is imperative. Just as much as it can boost your confidence before your wedding, the wrong photographer could tear it down. Do your research to find the perfect one, understand industry standards and feel good about who you work with. Read my blog with tips for choosing your boudoir photographer.

At Blue Flame I am intentional with my process to give you the best experience I can. Being mindful that this is a big step for many and I don’t take trust lightly. A Blue Flame Bridal Boudoir experience is all about the fine details for an elevated, high quality, bad ass time for images you will cherish forever.
