Since /ˈrev(ə)rē/ (less fancy is just REVERIE) is new around here and boudoir is the OG I wanted to go over how they are different, because while they seem the same they are very, very different in approach, intention and end result.

Collage of a person walking, preparing a drink, and sitting in a dimly lit kitchen and living room area, captured in the serene stillness of summer mornings, evoking a quiet reverie.

A boudoir session should, hopefully be pretty obvious, but incase it’s not a little refresh or read the blog Boudoir w/ Blue Flame. According to Wikipedia, boudoir photography is “a photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.” A boudoir session would be, by my standards a more styled session with planning, hair + makeup and taking place in my staged studio with directed posing. Which we love because it’s still a safe space to explore and an intentional experience creating stunning images. But it’s still somewhat styled and could be labeled performative. Not a bad thing at all, but it really got me thinking and so a passion project evolved.

Collage of four photos showing a woman in a dimly lit room wearing cozy lingerie and a cardigan, sitting in a chair while reading a book and reclining in a relaxed pose.

Back in February I put an idea into motion to push myself creativity and to capture women at home without all the fluff. It really was just that simple, but now six months later and a dozen sessions later it’s developed into much more. So what is a REVERIE Session? A REVERIE Session is an intimate in-home photography experience where I come to you and capture you doing everyday, mundane things at home. I already know the pain points that jump to the front of your mind and those hurdles are a big part of why I have fallen in love with these sessions. It wouldn’t be a Blue Flame photo experience without pushing some comfort zones.

A couple with tattoos enjoys time in a hot tub. One image shows the woman playfully holding up a swimsuit top, another shows them relaxing, and the third shows her drinking a cocktail.

We are constantly, from all directions being influenced to look, shop, live and show up online etc a certain way. Being conditioned to believe that our lives are only worth showing up online if it’s “aesthetic.” Did your mom ever rampage clean the house before guests came over? I see that same energy before someone takes a photo they want to post. Even worse is I see people not taking the photo or posting it because it’s not “worthy.” I won’t accept that from the beauty standards about women and their bodies and I won’t accept that from consumerism about our homes + lives.

A three-part photo collage: a woman and dog on a staircase, the woman petting the dog on steps, and wall art and shelf with decor including a dog photo, skull figurine, and hammock-like netting, capturing an intimate home session.

Hopefully, your home is your ultimate safe place, the place you can and are your very true self. A place you have crafted to feel at ease, housing the best memories and oozing with your personality. Where you spend the most time doing daily things that make up your life. I want you to flirt with that. I want to capture the everyday things you don’t even think of. We are honoring your very own REVERIE.

rev·er·ie /ˈrev(ə)rē/ noun – a state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts; a daydream.

A collage of three indoor scenes: a person drinking coffee by a window, a black and white image of a dining area, and a person in a cozy corner with a book.

With a REVERIE session we are blending state of mind with a state of being, I want to capture people in an authentic environment; their own. Romanticizing them in the mundane, daydreaming about their own life as it is. REVERIE sessions are all about just being in your own world & capturing being lost in it. No perfectly curated sets, no room for being on trend and definitely no pressure to show up a certain way. We aren’t fitting a mold, we are embracing the as is and leaning into the a real life daydream.
