“I could never do a boudoir shoot.” The usual response when I tell someone I am a boudoir photographer. I hear all the reasons & blocks people have convinced themselves about having this experience. So, it’s my turn to list off a few.
What is a Boudoir Session?
This is such a deeply personal answer depending on who you ask, so I am going to keep it simple. According to Wikipedia a boudoir session is “a photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.”
You would not benefit from a healthier relationship with yourself.
Yea, if you can’t think of one single benefit from gaining a healthier relationship with yourself and your body, definitely don’t do a boudoir session. A boudoir session is a big leap on your self love journey. It’s that scary, bigger step to get serious about yourself. It shows yourself you are ready to bet + invest on you! The one body, the one person that can change your life. Allowing yourself the space to actively show yourself love. Proving to yourself you can do scary things, you can be at peace with your body and f*ck what everyone else thinks. If you can’t benefit from any of that, a boudoir session is not for you.
You already have more than enough confidence.
No one has ever come to me with “I am so confident, it’s time for a boudoir session.” NO ONE. So, if you are overflowing with confidence, you don’t really need a boudoir experience. See, this session is all about pushing yourself out of a comfort zone you were forced into to prove to yourself it’s ok to have confidence in yourself. Show yourself what you have been missing. To see yourself from a completely different perspective. You GAIN confidence from a boudoir session, so if you already have enough this would just be for fun. (which I mean, it is!)
Older you won’t regret that you didn’t capture younger you.
How many times have you looked back at younger you with kinder eyes to realize you actually looked damn GOOD? That none of those negative thoughts you had were true. If that’s not you, then don’t do a boudoir session. If there is ZERO chance that older you won’t regret not having incredible images of younger you to look back on, boudoir probably isn’t worth the investment for you. If so though, then an experience like this is priceless to future you.
Hopefully you got the sarcasm along with the playfulness of this blog. But also the great points these reasons make.
