You don’t need much for your Denver Boudoir session. No need to overcomplicate things. So let’s chat about Blue Flame approved boudoir props.
Are Props Necessary for a Boudoir Photoshoot?
I like to keep my Denver Boudoir sessions all about YOU. While beautiful & unique, angle wings won’t be found in my studio. Skip the oversized sports jersey that belongs to your partner. If ya don’t wear sky high heels in the bedroom from time to time, leave them at home. What I am getting at is, less is more. YOU are the center of attention here & I want to keep it that way. YOU are enough. However, there are a few props that I absolutely love to enhance the vibe you are going for. These details we really dive into during your boudoir experience prep.
Approved Boudoir Props
A lot of clients really want that lifestyle vibe, even more than my normal boudoir style. This is when I pull out the list of approved props. Those everyday little thing that really help tell the story of the vibe you are going for.
Books/magazine/newspaper
Like to read? Is there a book that means a lot to you? Maybe the vibe is you ready a Playboy magazine in towel. (Yes I have done that and it was epic)
Ipad/laptop/phone
Doesn’t get any more lifestyle than this!
Coffee/tea/champagne/cocktail
Love adding in anything that gives your hands something to do along with showing off some personality!
Journal/sketchpad
Again, adding in something to show off personality and very unique props.
Jewelry/shoes
Not my first go to approved boudoir props, but sometimes the vibe calls for it. Something we would discuss during Session Design Call.
Kink toys
Don’t be shy. I have shot all kinds of sex toys and love incorporating them.
Props to think twice about
Too oversized tops
Love me a good button up shirt borrowed from a partner, so long as it’s not too oversized.
Sports jersey
This might be my #1 least favorite prop and I will try and talk you out of it every time. There are other great alternatives besides a distracting jersey. Trust me.
Jewelry/shoes
OK, I know, I have this on both lists. Jewelry and shoes become no go boudoir props when they are forced. If you don’t already own/wear them, don’t bring them
Anything not normally found in your bedroom
Angel wings, cowboy boots, chunky necklace, feather boa, your partners baseball jersey from collage, boxing gloves…. you *hopefully* get the point.
This particular client really wanted to tell a story for one of her Denver Boudoir session looks. That she just go home from a fancy event & topped the night off with some rosé in her birthday suit.
For the rest of her session she wanted to keep it laid back & natural with props that she would normally use at home. Reading, working from home or enjoying a cup of tea was just her vibe. I love that these pieces don’t draw attention away from her, they help set the scene.
There are only a handful of HARD NO props for me, beyond that I wanna hear & discuss what vision you have for your session.
