In past blogs I have covered how to prep for your boudoir session along with what to expect, but there is something even more important that doesn’t get enough attention; how to get the most from your experience. This could very well be a once in a lifetime session for you and I want to make sure you are prepared to take away the most from it.
How to Get the Most From Your Boudoir Session
A boudoir session can be very emotional, stirring up all kinds of feelings. Excitement, nerves, vulnerability are a few and I am here to say it’s normal and expected. We want to work through these feelings, not ignore them, so talking about the emotional prep is important. Expectations can run high (or low) for a session with so much meaning but managing them with an open mind and meeting me halfway is huge in setting yourself to have the best possible boudoir session!
What Is Included In A Boudoir Session
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty, let’s start with a quick overview of what’s included in your boudoir session. Once booked, you receive a very helpful Welcome Guide to lay the foundation of a solid session. 4-6 weeks prior to your session, we will have your Session Design Call to go over ALL the details + vision for your session so we are both clear and on the same page. Day of, hair + makeup is included along with a refreshment and your choice in music. Your one hour session will be completely guided; I don’t expect you to know how to pose so just follow my lead, I got you! Once we are done shooting and you are riding that boudoir session high I will get to editing while you enjoy lunch. Coming back to the studio just an hour later, your Reveal Session starts where you will enjoy a slideshow of all your final images and place your product order. It’s an incredible morning all about you. My studio is a safe space for you to be present and real. No expectations, negatively or judgment.
How To Prepare For A Boudoir Session, But Not How You Think
Emotional Prep for a boudoir session
Of course, talking about what to wear is important before a boudoir session, but so is talking about the emotions you’re feeling or that might come up. Talking with me only if you want to of course, but at least being aware and knowing what to expect. Nerves are expected and it’s important to know that they are normal and a big part of the process because doing something that makes you nervous usually means it’s going to be worth it. Preparing emotionally before your boudoir session will look different for everyone and can be overwhelming. But just like every other prep step, I encourage it and am here to help.
Keeping an open mind
Releasing expectations, both high and low, is clutch is getting the most from your boudoir session. Keeping an open mind, trusting the process while being present and intentional is the secret sauce. An open mind erases low expectations that could put you in a negative head space while also managing unrealistic expectations to set a solid foundation. Don’t get me wrong, I want you to get hyped, but some expectations like that a boudoir experience is the quick fix on your self love journey is a quick way to be disappointed. Keeping hopes in check is all about meeting me halfway to get the most from our time together.
Meeting me halfway
You make the first move by reaching out and booking the session, I provide the safe space and support and then we meet in the middle. A boudoir session with me is a big step in your journey, however it’s not the final checkmark. I can only prepare you as much as you allow me to. I can only hype you up as much as you want me to. You ultimately hold the power to see how badass you are. I just shoot the images to show you. It’s up to you to see what you wanna see. The positive steps after a session are imperative to keep that confidence growing. Coming into this experience ignoring your emotions, having a closed mind and/or expecting too much will set us up for failure. I don’t want that. You don’t want that. It’s important to me that you get THE absolute most from your boudoir session with me. That for years to come you know you gave it your all.
Choosing Your Boudoir Photographer
Maybe I am an over planner, a little too type A, when it comes to preparing my clients for their boudoir session, but I want to present you with all the tools you might need and you can take what you need. The VERY MOST important tip I can give you to get the most from your boudoir session is choosing the right photographer. You can do all the other steps perfectly, but if you don’t have the right photographer it will all crumble. Doing the research, laying that foundation to the true key. The rest will fall into place much easier. Choosing the right boudoir photographer is essential to having a successful session.
